Our Painted Desert Sheep Rams

Our Goal at Cinnstar is to eventually have Four Over 100 inch Gold Star Ram Sires here at Cinnstar. This will allow us to breed each ewe to the ram that we feel matches up with her the best, and get away from inbreeding that is so common in the breed. This takes time and patience. Right now we have our first, Prince, and he is a Very Special Ram!

Our Herd Sire Prince
Gold Star Ram Alvizo Ranch Prince Purple Rain
GSR Rene's Farm El Chavo ex Alvizo Ranch Olivia
Born March 15 2016

Prince February 2020 Composite Measurement 105 4/8

Prince January 2021

Prince is a Large ram with Sound Serviceable Structure. His Horns have been awarded the Painted Desert Sheep Society Gold Star Ram recognition.

Prince was bred and raised by Marica and TJ Alvizo, Alvizo Ranch. Prince is an outcross that Marica bred from El Chavo (GSR), a ram from Pavlock Farms lines, and her own Alvizo line. Thank You for entrusting Prince with us.

Prince has in our opinion a perfect temperament for a ram: Gentle and Approachable, Prince will eat out of my hand. But he is respectful as well, and non aggressive toward humans, and generally other rams.

Prince's color is really unique and it changes throughout the year. Varying from Taupe to Cinnamon. In the winter Prince also gets a Mouflon Patch!

The first year I bred Prince, I kept 2 ewe lambs he sired born in the spring of 2019: Mary's predominantly black with white unique elf ear Elfie, and Simora's bold marked black and white ewe Jacaranda. I also kept two Very promising ram lambs. Rider, a Bold Black and White out of Volo, and Slick who had such Great Horns I had to hang on to him for a while, but latter placed him.

Rider
Cinnstar Riding the Purple Sage
GSR Alvizo Ranch Prince Purple Rain ex Bentley's Volo
April 6 2019 to July 11 2021

Rider impressed me right away with his size and conformation. This young ram was going to be Large! Rider's dam, Bentley's Volo is a large bodied bold black and white (with ticking) ewe I purchased from Kathy Bentley as an adult. At one year of age Riders horns measured: Length 13 inches, Base 8. They were both pretty much the same. I planned to measure him again when he was two/two and a half.

While looking Very promising, I did not breed Rider the fall 2020 breeding season. I wanted him to get his GSR first. By next breeding season he should have attained his GSR, and would have been bred! Sadly Rider passed away from Worms! He show NO signs of having them! I had very recently checked all the rams eye lids! They were Nice and Red! Not pale! He was of Excellent weight! He did Not look Sick! I had Rider autopsied. This was before I learned about the worming method I use now! In Fall 2022 I repeated his breeding.

Don't let Worms Kill your Sheep! Rider's stools were Normal appearing. The visual "eye lid" check is NOT completely Accurate! Rider was "False Negative!" And it was Deadly for him!

I have also found that taking a stool sample to your vet can get Lost, or simply Forgotten!

Please contact me about using the Two Wormers from Different classifications, 2 times, 12 hours apart, and using a Copper Bolas the first worming. In 10 days repeat one more worming.

I now also do Strategic Worming, that correlates worming with the seasons that I feel will be even More effective! I also plan to get a microscope and check the sheep stools myself.

Our Visiting Herd Sire Harley
GSR Alvizo Ranch Harley
Strain's Demon ex Alvizo Ranch Gotta Lotta Bling
Born March 30 2013

Harley is Owned by TJ and Marica Alvizo, but now lives here at Cinnstar.

Harley is a sweet natured ram, and throws a Wide array of colors as well as the darling Elf Ears.

Many years ago Harley was attacked and nearly killed by a Pit Bull. One front leg was so badly damaged that it had to be removed. With Tireless Work and Love by TJ and Marica, Harley Survived!

I initially leased Harley in 2021 to breed to a selection of my ewes. Marica sent numerous ewes to breed to him here at Cinnstar. Rather than moving Harley back and forth because I wanted to use him again in 2022, Harley stayed here. However after the first month of my 2022 breeding season it became obvious that Harley had to removed from his ewes. I do not know how many he bred. Harley now lives with three little ram weanling buddies in my small Barn Pen. I do not know if Harley will be bred again. However after two months in the barn pen where he did not have to go very far to eat or drink, Harley is really feeling a Lot Better! Harley requires almost monthly hoof trimming on his remaining front hoof to help keep him standing easily.

Atoka
Alvizo Ranch Atoka
GSR Alvizo Ranch Midas ex Alvizo Ranch Rhianna
Born March 16 2021

We are Very Excited to introduce Atoka a 2021 ram lamb. While also an Alvizo ram, Atoka is not significantly related to Prince or our 2021 visiting Alvizo ram: Harley. We are Very Excited by his interesting colors, and Very nice horn growth. His dam, Rhianna is ticked out in black and red/orange. Atoka was not ticked as a lamb. Marica said "Don't Worry he Will!" And He Did, in an Orange/Red shades! Because of his excellent Growth and Maturity I gave Atoka a few ewes to breed in the 2022 season. I plan to measure him in April after he is two years. His bases are Impressive!

Our Up and Coming Herd Sire Breaker!
Serendipity's Heart Breaker
GSR Dark Horse Gran Patron Smoky ex Ascott's Kiona Silvermist
Born January 21 2022

When I first saw Breaker and his younger sister Khaleesi I was stunned by their unique coloration. Such a mix of different shades of Chocolate (light and dark), Black and Tans and White. I feel privileged to have both of them. Sadly, soon after I got Breaker he had to have emergency surgery for Bladder Stones that had lodged in his penis! Thankfully I have an Amazing Small Livestock Vet! With the use of ultrasonic and ultrasound equipment the stones were removed, and Breaker has recovered! The vet told me that bladder stones are a problem when sheep and goats do not get enough Ammonia Chloride. Commercial Sheep and Goat Pellets have added it to prevent this deadly issue. Because of all Breaker's hand care, Breaker is easy to handle and very tame. He has integrated easily into the ram herd and is doing well. Because of his illness his horns had a slight set back, but are now growing well.

Our Up and Coming Herd Sire Diamond!
Cinnstar Diamond of the Ruff
GSR Alvizo Ranch Prince Purple Rain ex Neely's Obsidian Jewel
Born March 8 2022

I am Very pleased with the way Diamond is maturing! Especially his Horns! Considering his dam, Jewel is a Double GSR Night granddaughter I should not be surprised! Unlike many of my sheep that are not black and white, Diamond's color is Very uniform. I am also pleased with Diamond's even and calm temperment. If Diamond continues maturing the way he is, I may breed him to a couple of ewes in October 2023.

Our Ram Pasture

Our Ram Pasture consists of about an acre of securely fenced mixed grasses simmilar to the Ewe Pasture and several trees for shade. The pasture provides ample grazing all year. The ram pasture also includes a small gathering area that is locked up at night, and their loafing shed will keep them warm and dry in the winter.
